Volunteering: It's for your health
You've probably heard many times why volunteering is important: solving problems, strengthening your community; improving the lives of the less fortunate, connecting with others. . . the list goes on. While those are all good reasons, it turns out there's an equally important reason to get involved: volunteering is actually good for your health!
According to the Corporation for National & Community Service, a growing body of research shows that volunteering provides individual health benefits in addition to social benefits. A report titled The Health Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of Recent Research shows that volunteers have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer. And the more hours you volunteer, the healthier you're likely to be. CNCS also found that those who devote 100 or more hours per year to volunteer activities are most likely to exhibit positive health outcomes.
Whether you're a dentist, hygienist, dental assistant, or concerned citizen, Creston Clinic needs your help and your skills. Give us a call at 503-916-5808, send us an e-mail, or fill out a application form for dental professionals.
After all, it's the healthy thing to do.
